8th note pairs normally play with equal timing for both 8th notes, so a series of 8th note pairs will sound like: dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum
With swing timing some of the time from one of the 8th notes is shifted to the other 8th note, so with the default timing ( 66 : 33 ) the same sequence of 8th notes will sound like: dum-da-dum-da-dum-da
MusEdit can play music back with swing timing in all staff lines. The symbols for indicating swing timing can be found on the main symbols toolbox:
or the "Other Symbols" toolbox:
The swing timing symbols can be entered into either a Rhythm line or in a staff line.
If they are entered into a rhythm line the enter the first symbol, hit "=", then enter the second symbol, followed by an expression such as (55:45) to adjust the amount of swing. All staff lines following the rhythm line with the swing notation will be affected.
If they are entered into a staff line, enter the first symbol, then Staff Text with nothing but "=", then the second symbol, then the optional swing adjustment, such as (55:45) entered as Staff Text. All music following the entry point will be affected.
