How to Enter Blank Chord Grids Into a MusEdit Score

Although you can design your own chords with the MusEdit chord designer, you may want to be able to print out blank chord grids for drawing your own chords by hand (perhaps while you are working out a song, or for a test for music students).  Here is an example of a MusEdit score with just a few blank grids:

It is possible to enter a blank grid into any MusEdit score, but because MusEdit always tries to present you with useable chord choices, you have to take several steps to override MusEdit's efforts.  For this reason, the easiest solution is to download this "template" file with blank grids for 2 - 8 strings, then double-click on the grid you need and simply copy it (Ctrl+C) and then paste it into the score you are working on:

Note: If you do want to enter grids from scratch, these are the steps you need to take:

Hit Ctrl+H to enter a chord line

Go to Actions | Set Tab and Chord Line Tuning

In the top right corner, click on the number of strings you want.  If you want six strings, change the tuning to anything other than standard tuning ( E A D G B E ). Hit OK.

Go to File | Set Preferences | Chord Lines, and uncheck both options under Automatically create alternate tuning chords...   Then hit OK.

In the chord line, type " C ".  This will bring up the chord dialog, and since the chord line is in an alternate tuning, and you have told MusEdit not to create chords for this tuning, it will present you with a blank chord diagram.  Hit OK.

As you can see, it is easier to use the blank chord template!
