Tip #32 - Use Alt+U/D and Alt+Shift+U/D To Cycle Through Chords

Use Alt + U/D and Alt+Shift+U/D To Cycle Through Chords

When you enter a chord name in a chord line MusEdit will automatically select the last used variation of that chord which you used in your score, or the first variation in the dictionary if an alternate variation hasn't been selected yet. You may discover after the chord has been entered that you would rather have used a different variation, or perhaps you want to change the key of the chord while keeping the type and variation the same.

You could put the caret to the left of the chord name and hit "Del" to remove the chord, then enter the new chord you want, but MusEdit provides shortcut methods to change the variation or key more simply:

First put the caret immediately to the left of the chord to be changed, then:

1) To change the variation of the chord while keeping the key and name the same, hit Alt+Up/Down Arrow, hitting the arrow key repeatedly to cycle through all available variations (not including user-designed variations).

2) To change the key of the chord hit Alt+Shift+Up/Down arrow as above.

You can change an entire line (or several lines) of chords the same way by first selecting the line(s) (with caret in the line hit Shift+Down Arrow) then hitting either Alt+U/D or Alt+Shift+U/D.

Note: This feature only works for chords in MusEdit's "hard-wired" chord dictionary; it doesn't work for user-designed chords.
