Banjo-HamiltonCountyBreakdown
(Quick View)
Size: 20480 Bytes
Info From Score: Hamilton County Breakdown; This tune is presented to honor and study the playing of Doug Dillard. It is from the Elektra album "Pickin' and FIddlin'", with; the Dillards and fiddler Byron Berline, one of the best fiddle albums ever. A significant feature of Dougs banjo playing is
the clear separate hammer ons, pulloffs and slides which are finished before the next note is played, and then the notes
ring together. This is in contrast to many players who tend to have these be eighth notes and arrive at the same time as the
next note, like this in the familiar Foggy Mountain Breakdown roll. It's not a matter of good or bad, as with all other things
musical, it is a choice. The MIDI playback will play this phrase first, so you can compare it to the first full measure of the tune. It's a
great jam tune, too.

Mandolin-MothersOnlySleeping
(Quick View)
Size: 9728 Bytes
Info From Score: Mother's Only Sleeping; This song is in 3/4
time. There are two half-verse breaks here, with plenty of tremolo.; Apart from the tremolo sections, the pick plays downstrokes all the time.;
There is plenty of moving around the neck, particularly in the second break. Use a metronome setting: quarter note = 160 approx. This gives you one click
for each beat of the measure. Use the MIDI playback to hear clearly what is going on. This is
particularly important in the timing of the tremolo sections.
